When undertaken as part of a healthy lifestyle programme Colonic Hydrotherapy
Stimulates bile production and detoxification of the liver.
Supports the immune system.
Improves PH balance in the whole body.
Provides a favourable environment for the friendly bacteria.
Re-enforces psychological resolve towards a healthy diet.
Improves nutrients absorption especially minerals and soluble vitamins.
Re-educates the colon towards healthier peristalsis and more regular bowel movements.
Often results in increased energy, advanced mental clarity, clearer skin and improved circulation.
Safely and effectively removes and cleanses the colon of old hard waste material and harmful toxins caused by today’s lifestyle, convenience foods, stress, and pollution.
The colon large intestine or bowel is situated in the abdominal region and forms the last part of the digestive tract. The colon is involved in the absorption of water, assimilation of nutrients and minerals, as well as the synthesis of vitamins. A major part of the excretory system, the colon eliminates food residue, drugs, heavy metals and other body wastes. This is supported by the billions of friendly bacteria which inhabit the colon and make up some 40 per cent of the dry weight of our faecal matter. This internal system is easily disturbed by stress, pollution, poor diet, medications, smoking and alcohol.
Colon toxicity and bowel stasis can be the underlying cause of many commonly reported health problems.
Colonic hydrotherapy is a safe and gentle internal bath which allows warm filtered water into the colon through a small device called a Speculum. The speculum makes it possible to simultaneously bring clean water into the colon and carry waste out. The colon is alternatively filled with water and released for loose debris to be allowed to flow out. This process is carried out throughout the treatment, which lasts from 30 to 45 minutes. The result is a gentle flushing of the colon, and a loosening of old faecal debris.
Colonic irrigation effectively cleanses years of excess waste, pollutants and toxic substances. This process can also help rebalance the bowel flora by facilitating re-population of the stock of friendly bacteria.
Hygienic and odourless, the therapy is carried out in a private and relaxing environment.
The treatment will begin with your therapist taking a full case history, which will be confidential.
Your therapist will also use special massage techniques on the abdomen to stimulate the release of waste products and can also introduce herbs and/or Probiotic (friendly bacteria) implant to aid the process of detoxification and cleansing.
Unlike laxatives colonic hydrotherapy is non-habit forming and actually improves the tone of the colon.
Your therapist will advise you on how many treatments are needed, depending on the outcome of your case history and your own particular requirements. This may vary from one treatment to a series of 3 to 6 treatments over a period of 1 to 3 months. It is also often useful to continue with maintenance treatments every 6 to 12 weeks in order to maintain the benefits achieved from your initial course of treatments.
All IPCH registered therapists are trained to attend to your needs and comfort, and to use disposable tubing which ensures total safety against the possibility of inadequate sterilisation procedures and cross-contaminations.
All IPCH registered therapists can also advise you on a specific detox diet to support the colonic treatment and help you achieve better health and vitality.
Symptoms which can be alleviated by colonic hydrotherapy – as part of a healthy lifestyle programme
We recommend that probiotic supplements are kept in the fridge to ensure they remain as effective as they can possibly be. However, if they are of a high enough quality, they will remain stable out of the fridge for long enough for you to transport them to your holiday destination; just make sure you pop them back in the fridge when you arrive. If you’re not going to have access to a fridge however whilst you’re away, we recommend taking a probiotic supplement containing saccharomyces boulardii with you as an alternative. Saccharomyces boulardii is a non-pathogenic yeast which has been shown to support a healthy balance of flora. This doesn’t need to be kept in the fridge and is a great solution for gastrointestinal support whilst traveling.
I’m worried about travellers diarrhea – is there anything I can take to help?
Saccharomyces boulardii is ideal to take away with you if you’re worried about travelers diarrhea. It can be used to deal with an acute problem, or as a preventative if it’s something you’re concerned you could be exposed to whilst away. It’s also useful for antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
I often get constipated when I go on holiday – is there an easy way to deal with this?
Many people worry about a change in bowel habits when they go away. Both traveler’s diarrhea and constipation are very common. Some of the most common causes of constipation on holiday are a sudden change in diet, disruption of daily routine, jet lag and dehydration. Making sure you continue to get enough fibre and plenty of water are important strategies to help prevent constipation, especially if you are traveling to a warmer climate. In addition, a stick pack of pureed papaya is a useful support that travels well and doesn’t need to be kept in the fridge. Several trials have found papaya helps to facilitate regular bowel movements and can be a particularly useful support on holiday.
I often suffer from indigestion when I eat out and am worried about this happening more often on holiday. Is there anything natural that I can take to help?
Indigestion is a common holiday health complaint. Whilst it’s lovely to try new cuisines, sometimes these can be laden with ingredients that our digestive systems are not used to dealing with. A natural plant-based digestive enzyme supplement can really help in these situations. Plant enzymes are similar to those that your body naturally produces and can help to make sure your food is broken down properly and help you to avoid unwanted symptoms of indigestion.
I’m worried about catching bugs on the plane that could spoil my holiday. Is there anything I can take to help prevent this?
Arriving on holiday with more than you bargained for is a common worry amongst travelers. Re-circulated air, cabin pressure and the virtually moisture-free conditions inside a plane cabin can increase your vulnerability to airborne infection. Whilst there’s little you can do to change the conditions inside a plane, you can be pro-active about maximizing your immune defenses before you go on holiday to decrease your risks of contracting infections that you may be exposed to. Choose a comprehensive immune support product that contains key nutrients; vitamins A, C, E, D and zinc. In addition, an exciting new ingredient – beta 1-3/1-6 glucans has been found to be a powerful support that enhances the immune system without over-stimulating it.
We get asked quite often about which products we recommend for hair loss (as well as the health of nails and skin).
Hair loss is a complex issue, and could easily be the subject of an entire book. We have an entire category populated with the products that may help here. But we’ll keep this simple. Women (and to a lesser degree, men) should always discount the possibility of iron deficiency, and supplement with iron if necessary. Note: please only supplement if you have been diagnosed with low levels of iron – don’t just guess – as iron is one of the rare minerals where if you take more than your body needs, it won’t just come out when you pee, and taking too much can be harmful.
However, where iron deficiency is ruled out, our top pick is usuallySilica Plus. Although we as with all products you should discuss it with your doctor before consuming it if there is any doubt at all in your mind, silica (unlike iron) appears to be completely safe for everyone to take. (Oh, and by the way, if you are iron deficient, you can take iron andSilica Plus).
A quick glance at the reviews shows that those who can be bothered to write one on the web site (typically, and frustratingly this is only around 0.25% of customers with allproducts) typically report tremendous benefits for hair loss. We’ve been selling this product ever since we started the online shop, and whilst it’s never been one of the top sellers, I’d say it’s probably the single most consistently successful product we provide that can help with hair loss. It also helps with the health of nails, slows the development of wrinkles (some have even claimed it partially reverses them), and frequently with joint problems, arthritis and similar problems. Here’s a quick summary of what it helps with, and what to combine it with for optimal results.
If you need silica, you are likely to say “yes” to some of the following questions…
Do you have more wrinkles than you think is appropriate for your time of life?
Is wrinkle prevention high on your list of concerns for the future?
Is your skin tone not what it could be?
Is your skin dehydrated?
Do your fingernails peel?
Do you have joint pain or arthritis?
Is your hair weak or brittle?
Is your hair thin or thinning?
Are your gums inflamed?
So how can silica help?
Silica strengthens hair and gives it shine
Silica ensures that your skin is moisturised from the inside, leaving it healthy and supple
Silica gives strength to nails – improving their health and appearance
Silica helps strengthen joints and tendons
Silica helps reduce inflammation of the gums

Selenium can be found in shellfish, salmon, Brazil nuts, meat, eggs, grains, broccoli and onions, among many other natural whole foods.
However, selenium levels in these foods depend on the soil where the products were grown, or where the animals grazed. Lower levels of selenium in the ground were associated with lower concentrations in the blood.
Compared to North America, selenium levels in the soil tend to be lower in many European countries.
Bones, Teeth and Gums
Osteoporosis is a common symptom of aging, caused by calcium being leached from the bones leaving them brittle and weak. Supplemental calcium on its own is not enough, other minerals are needed and silica can help the body repair brittle bones. The symptoms of osteoporosis are mainly seen in women after the menopause but the degenerative process occurs much earlier in life. With osteoporosis a lack of calcium in the bone matrix leads to weakened and thinned bones which are susceptible to being broken by a minor injury or even normal stresses and pressure.
Bones are made up of phosphorous, calcium, magnesium and silica. Silica’s function is the depositing of minerals, especially calcium into the bones to strengthen them. Therefore it can speed up the healing of fractures and help prevent them in the first place. Research has also shown that when the body has short supply of calcium, it can convert silica to calcium that is needed by the bones. Silica may also help with cartilage and joint inflammation and deterioration. Silica can stimulate bone formation so can be used as a preventative against osteoporosis.
Silica also has benefits for teeth and gums by hardening tooth enamel, preventing cavities and helping to preserve teeth. Silica guards against bleeding gums and also prevents recession of the gums that leads to loosening of the teeth and eventually tooth loss. Therefore silica can be used to maintain the integrity of teeth and gums.
Hair, Skin and Nails
There has been a recent interest in silica in the cosmetic industry as they have realised that shampoos, conditioners and creams containing silica are beneficial for healthy hair, skin and nails. However the benefits can also be seen when silica is taken internally.
Silica is a major component of hair as hair is almost as rich in silica as healthy bones. Silica helps to prevent baldness and stimulates healthier hair growth. A silica supplement can help revitalise hair by making it shinier and stronger.
As we get older, the amount of silica in the body becomes exhausted leading to brittle nails. Nails are complex protein structures that grow on average 4-5mm per month. When there is a mineral deficiency, the rate of growth slows down so the fingernails can be the first sign of a silica deficiency. Minerals will be removed from the nails before the bones so it is possible to stop the process before the minerals are leached from the bones and cause much greater health problems. Silica helps make the nails harder, shinier and less likely to break.
Skin also requires silica, as the supporting collagen underneath the skin enhances elasticity and beauty. Collagen is mainly made up of silica so the more silica available the more effectively the collagen can work and give a brighter complexion to the skin. Studies have shown that once the body is provided with enough silica, collagen levels are elevated and the texture of skin improves.
Silica can help the body deal with dry skin and other skin conditions, brittle nails, hair thinning, dandruff and burns including sunburn.
The body’s natural level of silica declines as we age causing bone density to decrease, dry and wrinkled skin, weak teeth and gums and hair loss to occur.
Tissue degeneration accelerates due to aging when connective tissue cannot retain moisture. Silica can help slow the degenerative process of connective tissue. Collagen’s ability to retain moisture is what gives connective tissue its ‘bounce’ and will slow down premature aging. Collagen contains large quantities of silica so if the body has enough silica, the collagen helps the skin look younger. Therefore a silica supplement inhibits the aging process of the skin by supporting the structure of connective tissue.
Silica is involved in maintaining blood vessels and is present in the heart, lungs, liver and the blood itself. Silica strengthens and stimulates the vascular system, lowers blood pressure and increases elasticity of blood vessels. Silica also helps improve arteriosclerosis, where the arteries become hardened leading to heart attacks and strokes. Silica can support the cardiovascular system as studies have shown people without heart disease have much higher levels of silica in their arteries.
Silica maintains the structure and permeability of the arteries so can help regulate blood pressure and avoid coronary problems.
Silica helps repair and maintain lung tissue, and contributes to the elasticity of the lungs. It also protects lung tissue from pollution that is inhaled, something we are all exposed to everyday. Silica acts as a cough decreasing agent and to tone the upper respiratory tract. Silica can reduce swelling in the nose, pharynx and larynx because of its positive action on the lymphatic system.
How is it best to take Silica Plus?
Like many nutrients, silica is best absorbed in a colloidal liquid form. Taken on 15 drops 3 x per day, Silica Plus is a two month supply of liquid silica with additional ingredients which help with its absorption, along with trace minerals. For this who are interested, there is more information on Silica Plus on the web site.
A healthy oxygenated environment helps Silica Plus do it’s job even better. We supply a number of liquid oxygen products, but we usually recommend customers to combine Silica Plus with Oxygen Elements Max, made by the same company. Indeed Silica Plus was originated formulated to be Oxygen Elements Max’s sister product. Although Silica Plus can and does work by itself the increased oxygen enhances ALL the potential benefits of Silica Plus.
We can’t finish this newsletter without giving a quick shout-out for the benefits of MSM. For problems of the hair, skin and nails, MSM (nutritional sulphur) can also be helpul. According to one one of the pioneers of MSM – Bill Rich – “wrinkles are caused by a lack of sulphur in the skin”. This is of course over simplistic, and there other factors that contribute to skin aging. Nevertheless healthy levels of sulphur do contribute to healthy radiant hair and skin, and supplementing with MSM has countless additional health benefits besides. But as always I know I am on borrowed time, so I’ll save that discussion for another day.
The term “the terrain” was coined by French physiologist Claude Bernard in the 19th century, who used the term for the body’s internal environment. Since the body comprises mostly water, the terrain of the body is in essence an aqueous medium. This includes the blood, lymph and the fluids inside of and between the cells.
The state of the terrain is determined by four factors, namely: its acid/alkaline balance; its electric/magnetic charge; its level of poisoning and its nutritional status (including oxygenation).
The condition of the terrain is absolutely central to the balance between health and disease. We can easily understand the notion that unhealthy soil will yield unhealthy, disease ridden plants, while healthy soil will produce strong, healthy plants.
The same concept applies when we look at the terrain of the body: if it is balanced it will promote health and if it is unbalanced it will lead to disease.
An unbalanced terrain disrupts the normal functions of the body: the immune system is less active, enzymes, hormones and other chemical messengers do not function properly, the elimination of toxins is less effective, prostaglandins and other pro-inflammation chemicals accumulate, digestion becomes inadequate, etc.
The body struggles to maintain balance through its many mechanisms, but eventually fails when the level of disruption reaches a tipping point, especially when there is a lack of proper nutrition.
This is when a variety of symptoms may begin, such as headaches, recurring infections, skin problems, etc, depending on our individual susceptibility, types of toxins and deficiencies.
Most people then turn to chemical drugs to suppress the symptoms, like painkillers to numb the pain, cortisone creams, antihistamines, antibiotics, etc. These unnatural measures only fuel the fire by aggravating the levels of toxicity, acidity and the degree of disruption of normal functions. They afford only temporary relief, while worsening the underlying imbalances that led to the development of the symptoms in the first place.
A large part of any natural treatment protocol, for any given disease, is focused on correcting the imbalances of the terrain. We maintain that if the terrain is healthy, the rest of the body will be healthy and resistant to disease and infection. Read more →
WHAT IS CANDIDA AND YEAST OVERGROWTH? Yeast is not only all around us – it’s in us too. We all have some yeasts, and some fermentation in the gut, usually confined to small amounts in the colon. We also eat yeast, most commonly baker’s yeast, in breads and bakery products, and in brewer’s yeast in […]
A seven-year study conducted at the University of California, San Francisco, on 9,000 women showed that those who have chronic acidosis are at greater risk for bone loss than those who have normal pH levels. Many of the hip fractures among middle-aged women are connected to high acidity caused by a diet rich in animal foods and low in vegetables. – American Journal of Clinical Nutrition
“The countless names of illnesses do not really matter. What does matter is that they all come from the same root cause…too much tissue acid waste in the body!” – Dr. Theodore A. Baroody in his remarkable book Alkalize or Die.
“Immune cells that are too acid or too alkaline do not produce antibodies or cytokines (chemical messengers to regulate other immune cells), and they have impaired phagocytosis (the ability to engulf and destroy microbes). As a result, the affected individual becomes susceptible to viral, bacterial, fungal and other infectious microbes as well as cancer,” says Dr. William Lee Cowden
Acid/alkaline imbalance causing disease is not a new concept. In 1933, Dr. William Howard Hay from New York published A New Health Era in which he maintains that all disease is caused by “self-poisoning” due to acid accumulation in the body.An overly acidic condition weakens the body and can become dangerous. Our body requires a slightly alkaline condition to function well. Blood, for example, needs to be 7.4 pH. A shift in blood pH of just 0.2 could result in death. Obviously, the body does not want to die so it is forced to borrow minerals (calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium) from vital organs and bones to neutralize the acid (possible cause of so much osteoporosis despite high dairy consumption?).
A condition of high acidity may go undetected for years, causing the body to suffer prolonged damage.
Are you too acidic? We know what a dirty fish tank looks like! The water fish swim in needs to be the correct pH for fish to live. Plants flourish when the soil is at the right pH level. We pH balance our fish tanks and soil, why not pH balance our bodies?
Life only exists where there’s balance, and your body is totally regulated by pH!
There are many other ailments that are caused by over-acidity.
While there are other ways to decrease acidity, diet is your obvious first step.
